Open Call: Artist residency Art ‘n Fiber®, September 2025
Region Uppsala, in collaboration with the Quilt Academy of Sweden and Uppsala Municipality, is announcing an international artist residency for textile artists living in Europe, outside of Sweden.
About the residency
The residence period is 4 September – 18 September 2025. The residency offers a grant of 16,000 SEK and an additional travel allowance up to 5,000 SEK for travel to and from Sweden. The purpose of the residency is to encourage individual creativity and international artist collaboration in textile/fiber art. During the residency, the recipient is invited to give an artist talk at the Uppsala Art Museum, presenting their work and sharing their experience of the stay. The grant is to cover a two week stay in an accommodation provided and hosted by the Quilt Academy of Sweden, located in the countryside just outside the city of Uppsala.
Accommodation
Accommodation includes a spacious studio, kitchen, bathroom, and a minor bedroom. Distance to the city is 15 km. Storvreta, the closest suburb with grocery stores, restaurants, and a train station, is about 5 km from the residency. Access to public transport is limited but some support can be provided by the residency host. Bicycle(s) and spare bed are available on request. Expenses for travel within the country, insurances and food are not included.
Optional 1:
An assisting colleague/partner may accompany the artist if considered well motivated by the selection committee. The presence should be explained in the application. Please note that no additional funding is awarded for the purpose and a minor complementary fee may be requested.
Optional 2:
For providing a possibility to meet local colleagues and textile enthusiasts, the recipient is welcome to propose a one-day workshop with content related to their artistic practice. Any such workshop will take place in the residence studio during the stay. No additional compensation is included but the call and the administration will be taken care of.
